Kyle swallowed hard as he thought about going up to that guy to see if it was the man who had saved him tonight. He couldn’t. What would he say? What would he do? What if he went up to him and it wasn’t the man who saved him? What would happen between them? The fact that they were both in a gay bar said a lot. Kyle ran his hand through his hair as the man started across the room, heading for the bartender to order a drink. Kyle waited and watched him. He did not want to make the first move with this man. Even though Kyle watched him closely, he didn’t seem to notice Kyle at all.

His drink came, and he sat down. He seemed to be lost in his thoughts. Kyle knew that look on his face. He had been there a hundred times after a hard day on the job. This was when the demons came out to play at night. Kyle didn’t know how to explain it, but he sensed that this man was experiencing some of the same things that he was. It was the bitter loneliness of not having anyone to hold on to at night when those nightmares came to life.

Kyle finished off his beer. He sat there for a long time, hoping and wishing that the man would look over at him, but he never did. Kyle didn’t want to be caught staring, so he tried to keep from looking. He just hoped and wished that this man would say something to him, anything at all. The darkness of the bar and the fact that they were nearly twenty feet away didn’t help the situation. Light caught the man’s profile. He really looked like the guy who had saved him. Kyle knew that he would have to make the first move if he were going to thank him for saving his life tonight. Kyle wasn’t one to ever make the first move in any relationship. He was always a submissive.

Kyle stood up, running a hand through his hair. Just as he got the nerve to cross the bar to the man who had saved him, the guy stood up and turned away from the bar. He was leaving. For the second time that night, the man who had saved him was walking away from him. He had to catch up to him and thank him for everything he did tonight.

  Chapter Two

After one drink, Mason was ready to leave the bar. He needed to get home and get some rest. In all honesty, the events of the night had rocked him to the core. He needed to just unwind for a little while before he went to bed. Mason was halfway through the bar when someone grabbed him by the arm and pulled him around.

  “Hey, wait a minute.”

Mason was staring at the thick blond hair of someone he saw only a few short hours ago. “Do I know you?” he asked.

The man looked befuddled for a few seconds. “I’m sorry. I thought you were somebody else.”

Mason did not want to tell the guy standing across from him that he was in fact the one who had saved his life. The man in front of him looked slightly confused and embarrassed by the fact that he had stopped him in the middle of a gay bar.

“I thought you were someone I met recently.”

“Who do I look like?” Mason asked.

The man shook his head as though he were losing his mind and ran a hand through his hair. “I’m sorry to waste your time.”

  “Hold up now.”

It was Mason’s turn to reach out and grab the guy’s arm, stopping him. There was an awkward moment where they both stared at each other. Well, it should have been awkward, but it really wasn’t. Mason felt as though he were talking to and holding onto a friend.

“Were you the one watching me from the bar?” Mason asked.

The man blushed. Even in the low lighting of the bar, Mason could see it. Mason really liked how bashful he was in front of him. “You saw me?”

“It was hard to ignore the heat of your stare.”

  “Yeah, I was.”

  “What’s that about?” Mason asked.

“You look like someone who helped me out tonight.”

“Do I? How did he help you?” Mason asked.

Their eyes locked. “He saved my life. I owe him my thanks.”

“If I happened to be that guy, which I’m not saying that I am…I would do it again in a heartbeat.”

Lt. Shaun looked at him more closely, narrowing his eyes on his. “It was you. I wouldn’t forget those eyes anywhere. They are the darkest green I’ve ever seen.”

No one had ever dared to speak to him that way. It caught Mason momentarily off guard. Mason didn’t like the way this man was looking at him. He was looking at him with a whole lot of hero worship and fucked-up admiration. That was the last thing Mason wanted to deal with right now. It was obvious that this man had a crush on him. And he was crushing hard. Mason should have confessed right then and there that he was the new acting police chief, but he couldn’t find the words. It was as though it didn’t matter that he was going to be the new chief. All that mattered was the man in front of him who looked as though he didn’t want him to walk away again.

  “You want to dance?”

“You don’t even know my name,” Mason said.

  “It doesn’t matter right now.”

Mason knew he shouldn’t give into temptation, but he couldn’t resist the offer. It had been so long since he had danced with anyone. Mason came in close, smoothing his lips across the man’s ear.

“I lead. Always. Do you have a problem with that?”

  “Not at all.”

He could feel a shiver race down the officer’s spine as Mason held his hand over his lower back, leading him to the dance floor. The music brought their bodies close together. It wasn’t long before it felt like there wasn’t a stitch of clothing between them. The officer leaned his lips in close to Mason’s ear, smoothing them down along the cords of his neck. It was then that Mason felt his hands tighten down on his hips.

Mason whispered his lips across Lt. Shaun’s ear. “You shouldn’t be doing that.”

  “Oh? Why is that?”

The question came out as a sigh against his ear. Dark laughter came from the back of Mason’s throat. He was shocked that he was going to risk his job and his reputation for something that was starting to feel like a one-night stand.

  “We can’t,” Mason said.

“What’s wrong with what I’m doing?”

Mason ran his hand over the back of the man’s neck, giving it a tight squeeze. He whispered his lips along his ear. “I’m a Dom. I’m the only one who can be in control of what happens. You do not want to push me on this tonight.”

  “Why is that?”

“I’ve had a really long day and I’m not about to take it out on you.”

“Maybe I want you to take it out on me.”

Heat moved through Mason’s prick, making him hard and ready. Mason slid his hand along his fly, adjusting his dick. Mason pulled his lips away from his ear, loosening the hold he had on his neck. Their eyes met. He let his eyes smooth down over his lips. They were puffy and full as though he’d been licking them invitingly. They looked completely kissable. Mason knew he shouldn’t be thinking about kissing one of his subordinates. It was wrong. It was an infraction that could get him kicked off the force even before he started. A groan sounded from the back of Mason’s throat when the officer rocked his hips against his. Pre-cum leaked from his cockhead as his dick contracted.

The music changed tempo and everything went on around them as though they existed in their own little world. Mason knew it was wrong to kiss this man. He should not do it, but as he stood there waiting and trying to decide, his lips got closer and closer. Without warning, the man closed the distance and kissed him hard. It was as though a long-dormant volcano exploded within Mason’s body. Lust and aggression raged through his veins. He grabbed hold of the officer he had saved, kissing him back with everything he felt deep inside. Mason moaned as he pushed his tongue deep into the man’s mouth, licking it hard and stealing his breath away. He wanted to ruin this man. He wanted to ruin him for all other men.

As the kiss went on and on, heat spread through Mason’s body, landing solidly in his dick. He was astonished that he had crossed the line with his subordinate. Maybe, just maybe, he worked for a different department and they wouldn’t see each other in a few days. Somehow Mason knew that wouldn’t be
the case. He knew that when he showed up at work for the first time, this man would be there. He was sure of it. It was going to ruin him. It could quite possibly wreck both of them. There was nothing he could do to stop it from happening.

One fleeting kiss was turning into another and another. Without warning, Mason broke his lips away. His heart was hammering as the officer he had saved slowly opened his eyes.

“We shouldn’t have done this,” Mason said.

  “I think we should have.”

  “We can’t do it again.”

  “Why not?”

Mason couldn’t admit the truth to this man. Not yet. It felt so wrong to keep the secret but he couldn’t tell him that he was now his boss. Mason’s dick was rock hard. He did not want to do what he was about to do with this man. He would not risk his career or this officer’s. As a Dom, he chose his submissives wisely. He did not have casual sex.

“I’m sorry, but I have to go,” Mason said.

  “Wait.”

“I’m sorry. We can’t do this.”

“I don’t even know your name.”

Their eyes met. Mason knew he had to tell him the truth, but he couldn’t. Instead, he turned and walked away, not looking back. He did not want to mess up this man for all other men. It had been a mistake to even kiss him. Now, he would live with the fallout and the consequences of his actions again. This was not going to be good for him. Cincinnati was supposed to be a place where he could start over. He was already fucking it up. Mason ran a hand through his hair as he stepped out into the pouring rain. He headed for his car not looking back.

  * * * *

What the fuck had just happened? Kyle was astonished that the man who had just kissed him so thoroughly had walked away from him. The man headed out into the pouring rain to his car. Kyle followed him outside into the rain. He wasn’t leaving yet. Kyle raced through the rain, knocking on the passenger-side window. He hoped that he would open up the passenger-side door for him. He wasn’t that lucky. The man didn’t even look over at him.

Kyle tried the door and it opened. He sat inside, running a hand through his hair. “I don’t want you to leave yet.”

  “You shouldn’t be here.”

  “Why the hell not?”

Their eyes locked again and something dark and dangerous moved within the eyes of the man who had kissed him so hard and thoroughly that it nearly popped his cock off. Pre-cum continued to weep from his tip. Kyle knew he wouldn’t be coming until he was alone in the shower.

“Give me one reason to leave and I will.”

The guy gripped the steering wheel as though he were trying to figure out how to say what he wanted to. He looked at him hard.

  “You’re a police officer?”

“Yeah, you know that. You saved my life tonight.”

“What district do you work for?”

  “District Four, why?”

The man looked away and out the window. He looked as though he were torn about what he was about to say next. Slowly, he looked at him.

“My name is Mason Rask. I’m the new acting chief. I start on Friday.”

  “Holy shit.”

Kyle couldn’t believe that the man who had saved him and kissed him was his new chief. This was a huge reason why they couldn’t be involved.

“Well that certainly complicates things for us, doesn’t it?”

Mason looked at him hard. “This isn’t funny.”

“I agree. It’s not funny at all. What are we going to do about this?”

Mason shook his head. “We are not doing anything about this. We are not sharing another kiss or anything else.”

The words slapped Kyle hard. He felt ashamed that Mason did not want him. No man had ever made him feel so ashamed before in his entire life for wanting.

“Tell me how you really feel.”

“Look, I don’t make the rules.”

“Actually, you do make the rules.”

“Funny. There’s no fraternization. You know that. We could both lose our jobs.”

  “No one’s going to know.”

“How can you be so sure?” Mason asked.

“Look around. Do you see any of our coworkers down here?” Kyle asked.

Covington Kentucky was a shit part of town. Over the river, they could see Cincinnati glowing in the night. It was true that no one would find them down there.

“You really want to let this thing go?” Kyle asked.

“I don’t have a choice in the matter. We can’t be together.”

Kyle didn’t want anyone else. He wanted Mason. He wanted the man who had saved him. He wanted the man who made him forget all about how he was a gay man who had very little experience. He was tired of sitting back and letting life pass him by. He wanted more out of life, and he wanted to find out more about Mason.

“You need to go home and forget about me,” Mason said.

  “I don’t think that’s an option.”

  “Why is that?” Mason asked.

“You’re pretty hard to forget,” Kyle said.

Silence echoed like a bomb that had gone off between them. Mason looked as though no one had ever spoken those words to him before. Maybe they hadn’t. Kyle was a man who always told the truth. Even if it hurt, he told people how he felt.

“I’m sorry. I can’t. You need to go home and forget about me.”

Kyle wanted to push the issue, but he could see that he clearly had hit a wall with Mason. There was nothing he could do to get past it. “Fine. I’ll see you later, Chief Rask.”

Kyle slammed the car door as he got out and headed into the driving rain. He headed toward his Jeep and got inside, locking the door. He turned on the Jeep and raced for home. He was not about to wait for Mason to figure his shit out. If he wanted to play by the rules, that was fine. He would play by the rules. Kyle got home to the house he rented and slammed the front door hard. Peachy came up to him, meowing and rubbing her sleek little cat body between his legs.

“Not tonight, girl. I’m in a mood.”

Kyle went upstairs and headed to the bathroom, taking off his clothes. He turned the water on high and stepped inside. He wasn’t a man who normally masturbated at any given moment, but he needed to now. He needed to scratch this itch that the chief had burned deep inside of him. Kyle grabbed his cock and balls, stroking himself roughly. He purposely kept going to the edge and then pulling back, giving himself a wicked case of blue balls. He loved the fact that he was getting harder and harder and more frustrated for a man who he would never ever have.

He was purposely punishing and torturing himself because he couldn’t have him. He groaned as he squeezed his balls and stroked his cock with his dominant hand. Pre-cum leaked from his tip and hit the water hard, sending it down the drain. Kyle started to stroke himself harder and harder and harder, taking himself with a reckless abandon he wanted to feel with Mason again. It was only when he started coming that he screamed Mason’s name. Cum hit the wall, sliding down in five thick ropes.

Kyle felt physically blown away by the amount of cum that shot from his dick. Kyle was astonished that he came so hard for a man who would never ever have him. His dick was still hard after he came. He looked down at his cockhead in disbelief as the water punished his swollen prick. He couldn’t believe he would never have the man that he wanted. Tears formed rapidly within Kyle’s eyes. He should probably put in for a transfer. He knew he wouldn’t be able to look at the man who he kissed and wanted again. He hated the fact that he wouldn’t ever have him. It burned.

He felt his heart breaking and he didn’t know why. Kyle wasn’t a man who usually got emotionally caught up in something, but he couldn’t shake the fact that this man had saved him, kissed him, and then pushed him away. It felt so horrible to be slapped in the face and sent off alone. Kyle wasn’t about to let the fact that Mason didn’t want him to bring him down tonight, but he was. He showered, got out, and dressed for bed.

It was a long time before he fell asleep and when
he finally did, he dreamt about Mason Rask. Hours later, Kyle woke up on a gasp. He felt his cock pounding hard. He was shocked that he was screaming Mason’s name as he slept. The dream slowly faded away, but the hardness of his cock did not. He was stunned that he was so hard again for a man who didn’t want him. He gave his cock a hard stroke.

“You’re fucking stupid. You do realize that, don’t you? He’s doesn’t want you. He doesn’t want you at all.”

Kyle continued to masturbate against his sheets as he said the words that pushed him away tonight. “He’s your chief. He won’t ever have you. You need to fucking get over it.”

As much as he said the words that he needed to hear, Kyle did not believe one of them. His dick had other plans for him that he couldn’t deny. As he stroked himself hard, hot cum beat from his cock. Hot juice shot from his prick, wetting his sheets. Kyle fell back against his bed as he thought about calling in sick to work tomorrow but he didn’t want to. He wanted another chance to see Mason Rask.

“I can’t believe how fucking stupid I am.”

  Chapter Three

Mason couldn’t stop thinking about Kyle as he started work at District Four. He took on a low profile as he got to know the teams and all of his duties. It was clear that Chief Anderson had run a tight ship and everything was in line. Whatever scandal had pushed him out, Mason didn’t think it had affected his career in law enforcement. Everyone spoke highly of the former chief. Despite being on duty, Mason had decided not to have a formal meeting with his subordinates just yet. He wanted time to reflect and get to know everything about the district first. With James Anderson at his side for the next two days, he was going to let him take lead on everything until he had to step up. James had cleared out his office and had given it to Mason. They were sitting down and going over all policies and procedures in a conference room. Anderson looked tired and ready to let go of the day to day of the job.
